The web hosting world is full of providers offering dedicated hosting in many different countries and data centers. Telling one web host from another can be tedious when you're looking for a host that meets the requirements of you or your business.
In this article, let's compare Spin Servers and Hetzner. Both offer bare-metal dedicated hosting along with other services such as colocation and virtual private server (cloud) hosting.
We'll compare three areas: dedicated server builds, payment options, and the general services each host offers.
Dedicated server builds
Spin Servers
Spin Servers has two data center locations in the United States: Silicon Valley (San Jose), CA, and Dallas, TX. At the time of writing, we had 15 builds available in Dallas and 7 in Silicon Valley. We also offer custom builds: if the server list in either location doesn't fit your needs, contact our sales team and we'll put together a custom option.
Spin Servers' builds are best suited to clients who need powerful servers for workloads like virtual machine hosting, streaming and video encoding.
Hetzner
Hetzner offers a wide range of hosting services, mainly in Europe. Its dedicated servers are hosted in its own data centers in Germany (Nuremberg and Falkenstein) and Finland (Helsinki). Hetzner has since added locations in Ashburn, VA, Hillsboro, OR and Singapore, but these offer cloud servers only, not dedicated servers.
Hetzner also offers other web hosting services, such as shared hosting and colocation.
At the time of writing, its dedicated bare-metal lineup included more than 200 builds across Intel, AMD and Arm processors.
Hetzner may offer custom servers, but in our review we couldn't find any information about custom build options.
Payment options
Spin Servers
Spin Servers accepts 14 different payment methods, including PayPal, credit card, cryptocurrency and Alipay. We can also split invoices so that overseas clients can pay easily without running into payment amount limits.
We're also adding more ways to pay, such as Tenpay/WeChat Pay.
Hetzner
At the time of writing, Hetzner accepts four payment methods: PayPal, credit card, bank/wire transfer and SEPA direct debit. These options can be limiting for clients in some parts of the world.
